At the Council of Europe’s initiative, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year since 2001 on 26 September. Throughout Europe, 700 million Europeans are represented in the Council of Europe’s 46 member states and all are encouraged to discover more languages at any age. Linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding and a key element in the rich cultural heritage of our continent. Therefore, the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg, promotes plurilingualism in the whole of Europe.
The students of our school’s bilingual studies took part in the activities of the European Day of Languages by watching a series of short videos focused on various questions about languages and they tried several interactive games and quizzes available on the official EDL website which also includes The Secret Agent Language Challenges application. This application encourages students to take advantage of the plentiful opportunities available to practice or learn more about a language beyond a classroom context.
